The Servant: The Story of Bang Ja

Bang-ja is a servant to a noble. He is widely considered attractive and is and impeccably mannered. At a geisha house called Cheongpunggak, he falls in love at first sight with Chun-hyang, a woman Bang-ja knows his master Mong-lyong is also enamored with. Deciding to win Chun-hyang's favor--and heart--first he seeks the help of old man Ma. Ma is renowned for his skills in the art of the seduction of women. Old man Ma teaches Bang-ja the skills he has learnt from Jeolla province's foremost Casanova, JANG Pan-bong. Mong-lyong is a nobleman more interested in the arts than in study, and more interested in women than in Confucius. He visits Cheongpunggak, a geisha house, and falls in love immediately with Chun-hyang, as posh as any noblewoman. She plays games with Mong-lyong, making it unclear whether she is aware of his feelings for her and further confusing the issue by showing interest in his servant, Bang-ja. Mong-lyong plans a complex strategy based on Confucian Analects and Mencius and begins a game intended to make Chun-hyang fall in love with him. Chun-hyang is a beautiful woman whose only blemish on her otherwise perfect character is that she is the daughter of a geisha. Through the teachings of her mother Weol-mae and aunt Weol-lae, Chun-hyang tries to seduce the nobleman Mong-lyong to improve her social status. She is able to capture Mong-lyong with her natural charms but things do not go according to plan when Bang-ja enters the scene. Chun-hyang uses a special weapon--a letter of addictive attraction--to seduce Mong-lyong. Bang-ja, a master womanizer armed with ancient teachings, the sophisticated schemer Mong-lyong, and Chun-hyang, a seductress without rival. What will come of their multiple and unpredictable games of seduction?
